The original hotel was purchased by Landry’s for $38 million in 2011, and was then rebranded as the Golden Nugget Atlantic City. In 2013, the online betting website started operations.
Shortly after, the Golden Nugget Atlantic City resort was closed for nearly a month because of a strike that shut down all of the city’s casinos.
The online site had a slow start, but by 2017 it had become the first New Jersey online casino to offer 400 games, making it a major player despite its late entry into the industry.
For Golden Nugget, 2018 was a year of continued growth for their online ventures. With 500 games available, this site was the first of its kind to provide legal online gambling in the United States.
UNITE HERE Local 54, an Atlantic City hospitality workers union, urged its members in the casino sector to go on strike in 2022. In late 2022, Golden Nugget Atlantic City reached an agreement with the union promising higher wages, better healthcare and pension plans among other benefits.
